Virgil: How would it look like for the Christian West to go about bringing back this zeitgeist of law and order? Can it be done without resorting to other religions or authoritarian ideologies?
George: What will keep the West whole is the same thing and the same virtues that will keep any other culture whole. Just like the soul needs a body to live, Christianity needs political stability to live. But soul and body are not the same thing, and neither is Christianity and political stability. The task of maintaining political stability is what we are concerned with when we ask what is to be done. This question can only be a political question. The properly and uniquely Christian question of the soul, of living a life guided by grace plays out on another plane. It is not necessarily an individual or private plane as opposed to a collective one, but it is not political.
